Opera California Youth Choir celebrates their milestone 30th Annual Concert with the premiere of You Are Special 2, a family musical that inspire children of all ages to realize the fact that they are special!

You Are Special 2 will premiere at the John Anson Ford Theatres, 2580 Cahuenga Blvd, Los Angeles, CA. on Sunday, July 13th, 2014 at 7:30 PM.  Opera California Youth Choir will then visit several churches in Tijuana, Mexico to spread the festivities later in July.

Inspired by the popular children’s book You Are Special by Max Lucado, You Are Special 2 tells the story of Jonathan, who believes that he isn’t special because everyone tells him that he isn’t special.  However, a fateful encounter will help Jonathan realize that no matter what everyone else labels him, that Jonathan is, in fact, very special!

You Are Special 2 blends the inspiring story with popular music from all genres to create a unique and exciting performance for everyone to enjoy.  Directed by Music Director Sunghei Roh and Stage Director Kay Nahm, the evening will also include the annual recital concert by the Opera California Youth Choir, performing selections from Classical, Choral, Gospel, and Popular Music.

Special guest include Global Messiah Women’s Choir.  In 2013, Global Messiah Women’s Choir, under the direction of Philip Roh, headlined the performance of Handel’s Messiah, leading 2013 choir members at Yeido Full Gospel Church in Seoul, South Korea.

Opera California Youth Choir, since its inception in 1988, is dedicated to the belief that the power of music can transcend cultural difference, bringing together people of all ethnic backgrounds in the pursuit of mutual understanding and respect that is essential for our society's continued progress.  Opera California Youth Choir also believes that music encourages the growth and development of our children.  The members of Opera California Youth Choir, from ages 10 to 18, practice every Saturday, in preparation for their annual concert.

As part of that mission, OCYC regularly visits communities both here in United States and abroad.  In the past, OCYC has visited and performed for communities in Seattle, Hawaii, Florida, South Korea, China, Peru, and Rwanda.

This year, after the Ford Theatres performance on July 13, OCYC will visit perform in Tijuana Mexico on following dates:

July 25, 2014: Iglesia del Nazareno, Tecate, Mexico

July 26, 2014: Iglesia de Ojos Negros, Mexico

July 27, 2014: Calvary Chapel, Rosarito, Mexico

A limited number of tickets will be available at the Ford Theatres box office on the day of the performance.
